The Jewish Memory of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – a book by Tamara Włodarczyk and Ignacy Einhorn

“The Jewish memory of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising” is the story of a memory that has always united Jews representing different social backgrounds, regardless of their political views and attitudes to the Jewish question. All these people have always come together on 19th April to commemorate not only the fighters in the Warsaw Ghetto, but also all the victims of the Holocaust. The readers of the book will find out where the first anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in the world took place, how (formally and informally) the subsequent anniversaries of 19th April were celebrated, and in which region of Poland the number of Ghetto Heroes’ Streets is the highest.

This book has been co-published by the Social and Cultural Society of Jews in Poland and the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. Other involved entities include the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and POLIN Museum. The book contains unique photographs taken from the TSKŻ’s 1948-2022 archives and illustrations shared by the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, as well as QR codes that will provide its readers with access to short films exploring the theme of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
