DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE
This recurrent event has been organised in Łódź for many successive years in co-operation with the city’s numerous cultural institutions. Over the past fifteen years, we have been introducing its participants to the culture and history of Polish Jews at the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Łódź, the Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre in Łódź, the Museum of Independence Traditions, and the Museum of the City of Łódź. Since 2026, the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland, has been hosting the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE in cooperation with the Kazimierz Dejmek New Theatre in Łódź in partnership with the Municipality of Łódź. The change of the main partner also has a symbolic dimension for us. It was within the premises of the New Theatre, shortly after the Second World War, that the Jewish Theatre was revived.
Bearing in mind the high popularity of the past editions of the event, its hosts and notable partners prepare numerous events to celebrate the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE including lectures, theatrical plays, film shows and exhibitions. In 2017 we started efforts to ensure that minor events are held at each our local branch as well. Another regular highlight of the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE is the Special Educational Package for children and youth. Each year, its agenda is developed by a group of outstanding experts and educators. We also take part in the international #WeRemember campaign.
Every year on 27 January, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, representatives of the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. During ceremonies held throughout the country, our members lay flowers at memorial sites, including the ones in Łódź (i.e. Radegast Station), Warsaw (i.e. Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising), Wrocław (i.e. courtyard of the White Stork Synagogue) and Częstochowa (the site of the former Nazi slave labour camp).
Since 2010, the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland, along with other partners, has been inviting distinguished guests, artists, and creators to present their works inspired by the culture and history of Polish Jews.
Those who have participated in the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE included, among others: Professor Władysław Bartoszewski, Professor Krystyna Radziszewska, Prof. dr hab. Anna Kuligowska-Korzeniewska, Jan Jagielski, Ewa Makomaska, Agata Tuszyńska, Cast of the Ester Rachel and Ida Kamiński Jewish Theatre in Warsaw, Danka Stankiewicz, Olga Mieleszczuk, Hadrian Filip Tabęcki, Marek Rawski, Lala Czaplicka, Klezmafour Band, Daniella Rabbani.
The previous fifteen editions of the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE attracted over 8,000 participants in the educational programme from both Łódź and the Łódź Voivodeship, as well as thousands of spectators and participants of the main celebrations.
In recent years, at the end of January, the organisers of the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE have sought to offer the residents of Łódź the opportunity to participate in extraordinary lectures, exhibitions, films, theatre plays and concerts, all with the aim of cherishing the memory of our shared history, the victims of war, a world that no longer exists, but whose memories are just waiting to be discovered... at every turn.
