Just like in the previous years, the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland hosted a number of interesting events. Participants of these events were offered the chance to enjoy Hanukkah evenings in a joyful and family-friendly atmosphere.
WARSAW
Members of TSKŻ Warsaw celebrated a Hanukkah dinner on 9 December at Sosiser Restaurant at ul. Bagno 2. After the lighting of the third Hanukkah candle, which was performed by Yacov Livne, Ambassador of Israel together with Artur Hofman, Chairman of TSKŻ, the concert by Sława Przybylska, accompanied by Janusz Tylman, commenced.
CZĘSTOCHOWA
On 11 December, Ms Aleksandra Idkowska performed her Hanukkah song concert titled: Lich’ vod Chanuka.
WROCŁAW
The Hanukkah evening held at our Wrocław headquarters on 16 December was full of fun and games. Inga Dinesen, Leopold Galicki, Ryszard Jahn and Tomasz Kwietko-Bębnowski talked about the customs associated with the Festival of Lights
CRACOW
On 10 December, TSKŻ Cracow in cooperation with Vintage Candle hosted a candle-making workshop. The participants of this event were also offered some festive refreshments.
SZCZECIN
In Szczecin, a musical group known as Srebrzyści Akordeoniści [i.e. Silver Accordionists] performed to make our Hanukkah dinner even more entertaining. Each participant of the event also received a small souvenir.
LODZ
On 7 December, The Pabianice Teachers’ House was visited by an incomparable duo – Henryk Rajfer, an actor from the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw, and Juliusz Ursyn Niemcewicz, a tenor singer representing the Silesian Opera.
BIELSKO-BIAŁA
From 7 to 11 December, the Feast of Three Cultures was held at the Wiktoria Kubisz Cultural Centre in Bielsko-Biała. The event which has been held periodically for many years focuses on the multicultural aspect of the city. The event’s agenda included such highlights as Hebrew language classes and Jewish cuisine workshops.
LEGNICA
On 10 December, a festive Hanukah dinner was held at the domicile of the local Jewish Religious Community. The event was enhanced by a musical performance by Henryk Rajfer and Juliusz Ursyn Niemcewicz.
WAŁBRZYCH
The Hanukkah evening which took place on 8 December at Żak Club in the vicinity of the Wałbrzych University of Technology was full of joyful songs and games. The feast was accompanied by a musical duo composed of Juliusz Ursyn Niemcewicz and Henryk Rajfer. The attendees included not only members of TSKŻ Wałbrzych, but also some guests from the town of Dzierżoniów, located ca. 30 km away.
KATOWICE
On 14 December, Paweł Grabiec, Head of TSKŻ Katowice commenced the Hanukah celebration by lighting of a traditional Hanukah menorah. The event was musically enhanced by Jarmuła Band, a group which used to perform for the Israeli armed forces.
GDAŃSK
On 10 December, a lecture entitled ‘Hanukkah in theory and practice’ by Dr Jarosław Balcewicz was delivered at the domicile of TSKZ Gdańsk to mark the holiday of Hanukkah. The speaker talked about the history and customs accompanying this joyous holiday. The participants were also offered festive snacks.
The celebration of Hanukkah were made possible thanks to the support on the part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.
